see you, september

September flew by. October, for a lot of reasons, is my favorite month of the year, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the crisp autumn days. That reminds me, I have a granny square blanket I have to finish so I can wrap myself in it during this cooler weather!

Kanelbullar and brick paths

I've been listening to a bit of autumn-themed music lately. Blue skies are gently turning to overcast; wind gusts take fleeting breaks in exchange for calm.
What is your favorite autumn music? Magnolia Electric Company has always been a favorite, but lately I have been enamored with the Swell Season.  So good :)

Below, a photo taken with my phone while taking a coffee break (fika!) from work. The coffee shop is on a corner of a street in a small town where we live, and for some reason we chose a busy time to sit outdoors, as so many cars were moving about and people were driving like chickens with their heads cut off. It was a bit stressful to watch!

This week has been incredibly busy (worked through the entire weekend, putting in 12 and 14 hour days in a row) and it's finally starting to calm down a bit.

 The photo below is of kanelbullar, a Swedish coffee roll. Sadly, they were made from a box, not from scratch. But we bought the mix at Ikea, and when we made them it smelled just like Ikea. So perfect for a fall day. They were very good, especially with a cup of strong coffee, sitting by an open window with a sleeping dog warming your feet.

I think there is a theme starting on this blog: coffee and food. And autumnal things. Oh, if it could be autumn all year round, I would die happy.

Fall: Recap part 1

I'm not going to lie: Fall is my favorite season of the year. Perhaps it's the crisp breeze that's reminiscent of burning leaves and stale flannel blankets; the cloudless azure sky with the distant sound of Canadian geese departing for warmer winds; I find myself groping for the outlines and textures of warmer clothes in my dark closet, pulling on knee-high leather boots that have seen their share of falling leaves and pumpkin patches. It might just be the shortening of days, when darkness falls and I'm inclined to bake fruit pies and the like. 


I thought it might be nice to reminisce with autumn photos I've taken from the past few years. I'll be posting a few photos from my collection in the next few posts. Look for the next post Friday. I hope you enjoy and possibly post a few of your own fall memories on your blog, too!

Mornings, 2011

Cool breezes are settling in; fall is nearing. Apple picking comes to mind along with tartan fabics and old leather.  Soon we will be greeted by the goodbyes of the geese, flying to warmth and a new life.

It's the last day of September. The month has flown by so I wanted to make a post before it turns to my favorite month, October.

Today's weather, had it been about 15 degrees colder, would be perfect fall weather. It's been windy, overcast with heavy clouds, and the occasional shower brings lovely gusts of air into our little studio.

Im here, I promise!  Things have been hectic but I really want this blog to continue.  So a few things:

1. I really really really want to subscribe to this magazine.  I think I have to start saving my pennies.

2. We've been cooking. A lot. Last night we had a "mini thanksgiving" that was delicious. No pictures of that (too hungry!!) but here are some photos of things I have made recently.  I like how autumn-y they feel. 

dreaming of fall.

Since I have made it part of my M.O. to not buy many clothes this year, (or at least just try to make them if I can) I wanted to just impart to you a few items that have piqued my interest recently. In particular, for the Fall season. Oh - maybe I will actually make a "roundup" of what is getting me excited for fall.  Okay, here goes:

First Row: Dixon Tall Boots in rich brown; Madewell button-down boy shirt in indigo; Madewell lanyard tee in indigo ink; Second Row: Gourmet's pumpkin stuffed with vegetable stew; CB I hate Perfume's In the Library scent; Coffeehouse NW on a fall evening; Third Row: listening to The Swell Season's new album; dreaming about an airstream and a lake.
